10/30/06 - 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Announced
This past Saturday, October 28th, 2006, the 2007 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees were finally announced. The announcements came approximately six weeks later than usual. This year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation reduced the size of
its Nominating Committee "to move things along quicker," but it also unexpectedly reduced the number of nominees. Most years, fifteen artists are nominated and six or seven are inducted each year, but for 2007, there are only nine nominees. There is no word yet as to whether the number of inductees will also be lowered.
The Rock Hall voting committee is now determining the winners, which are typically announced in mid-December. The 2007 inductees will then be honored at the annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony in March of next year. Artists are eligible for the Rock Hall 25 years after releasing their first record.
