10/25/06 - COBAIN Knocks ELVIS From #1 Slot as Rich Dead Guy
Forbes.com has published that Nirvana's Kurt Cobain earned $8 million dollars more than the King between October 2005 & October 2006. Cobain rolled in with $50 million and Elvis came in at $42 million. The earnings are
based on licensing deals for using the deceased celebrities' work or image in advertising or elsewhere.
More surprising is that that Cobain debuted in the slot, just as Elvis did, but that was six years ago and the King has held the spot since. The Nirvana icon, is not expected to stay in the slot, as this years fluke was due to the 25% stake in Nirvana's song catalogue that Courtney Love sold to PrimeWave, a New York publishing company.
Other rich dead folks include Charles Schulz at $35 million, John Lennon at $24 million and Albert Einstein at $20 million, whose estate profited from such licensing deals as the popular "Baby Einstein" educational videos.
