10/18/06 - 40 Years of THE DOORS: A Yearlong Celebration to Kick Off November 8th in West Hollywood
A yearlong celebration marking the 40th anniversary of the Doors music is slated to kick off at the birthplace that started it all. A plaque unveiling at the legendary Whisky-A-Go-Go with Doors surviving members, Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger and John Densmore will begin the day's celebrations along West Hollywood's Sunset Strip.

The Whisky itself will also receive some notoriety as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will place the club on its list of historic landmarks. The venue, where Jim Morrison, along with Doors bandmates first gained public attention is the first location outside the city of Cleveland to receive the honor.

Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction) will read a selection of Morrison's poetry, and the three surviving members of the band will take part in a book signing of former Rolling Stone editor Ben Fong-Torres' new book, "The Doors by The Doors". The book signings will each take place at a different "significant location along a one-block stretch of the Sunset Strip" with one of the three members doing a signing at each location.

The days festivities will also feature a preview listening party previewing "Perception," a 12-disc (six CDs and six DVDs) box set coming from Rhino Records that includes remastered and expanded versions of all six of The Doors' original studio albums. The set will also include a stereo remix of each album by original Doors co-producer Bruce Botnick, as well as video tracks and photo galleries. The boxed set will be available in stores November 21st.

Also scheduled, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will preview its upcoming Doors exhibition, "Break On Through--The Lasting Legacy of The Doors" at The Cat Club, next door to the Whisky (formerly The London Fog) which is where the Doors made their debut performance in 1966. The full exhibit from the R&R Hall of Fame will premiere May 25th, 2007 in Cleveland.
