10/18/06 - BRUCE DICKINSON, "because we're British we can still manage to laugh at ourselves"
IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson was recently interviewed by San Francisco Gate
writer Aidan Vaziri and in the interview, Dickinson answers some tough questions in only the way you could expect.
Below are a few excerpts from the interview:
Q: Congratulations on turning into a pop band!
Dickinson: "Well, I don't know about that. Hardly. When pop bands start doing nine-minute songs, then, hey. The last pop band that did that was PINK FLOYD, I think."
Q: Is there a point when you're going to stop putting zombies and skeletons on your album covers?
Dickinson: "I don't think so. Why?"
Q: Doesn't it make you feel a bit like you're in the darkness?
Dickinson: "Not in the slightest. Having grown up with it, it's actually part of me. I reject the idea that we do music and we're not serious about it. We're actually very serious about it, but because we're British we can
still manage to laugh at ourselves. It's a curious Anglo-Saxon trait. Even while bullets are whizzing over our head, people are still pretending it's funny."
