10/17/06 - QUEENSRYCHE Puts on Theatrical Production of "Operation: Mindcrime" I & II
Seattle based rockers put on a special hometown show this past Friday, when the band literally performed its
concept recordings "Operation: Mindcrime" and "Operation: Mindcrime II" in their entireties.
Geoff Tate (vocals) and approximately half-dozen actors acted out each song as a scene in what was described in Seattle PI as "A move that could have easily turned into something straight out of Spinal Tap's book, but it was executed surprisingly well, taking the unintentional comedy out of the equation."
The records tell the story of a heroin addict named Nikki who is under the control of the evil Dr. X, who manipulates Nikki to commit a series of murders. Nikki falls in love with a nun named Mary, whose murder he is framed for.
He is sent to prison at the end of the first "Mindcrime" and the second record, released this year, picks up 18 years later where he exacts revenge on Dr. X and eventually is reunited with Mary in the afterlife.
