10/06/06 - IGGY (POP) AND THE STOOGES Working on New Album with Steve Albini
Full in Bloom Exclusive thanks to the almighty Scoop: The Godfather of Punk, Iggy Pop and original Stooges members, Ron
and Scott Asheton along with 'Funhouse' saxophonist Steve McKay are currently in the studio working on a new comeback record. They have
once again recruited the legendary Mike Watt (Minutemen / Firehose), for bass duties. Previously, Mike had
toured with the band in 2003.
The quad went in on the 3rd of this month and is expected to be locked in for at least two weeks. Iggy and
the Asheton brothers have handled the writing of the songs, while the whole project is being overseen by legendary producer
Steve Albini. Albini told the Chicago Reader, that The Stooges are one of his all-time favorite bands.
In related news, Mike Watt has a very full schedule with the new project as he just completed his
first string of shows with his new trio, Mike Watt and the Missingmen. The trio consists of
Tom Watson and Raul Morales. Following the initial success of the newly re-formed project, the
trio has been asked to open three weeks worth of shows with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Europe, while
picking up solo dates along the way, from
November 20 through December 13 of this year. Additionally, Watt
plans to record an album of his own with his new band of Missingmen.
