10/03/06 - New BEATLES Album Slated for Release Next Month

The surviving Beatles have announced their first "new" album in more than 25 years: a remix of some of their best-known songs that was used as the soundtrack to the theatrical show "Love" for the aerial acrobatics of Cirque du Soleil at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas. Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, with Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison representing John Lennon and George Harrison, agreed to the release in November on EMI under the Beatles banner.

Although the album track list has yet to be announced, fans can expect an unorthodox blend of elements drawn from throughout the Beatles' recorded legacy. Assembled by Beatles producer George Martin and his son, Giles, from the original master tapes, they used original master tapes to create a new musical suite. The opening chord of A Hard Day's Night merges into Get Back, the Eastern drone of Within You, Without You is accompanied by the drums from Tomorrow Never Knows and phrases from Penny Lane weave in and out of Strawberry Fields Forever.

Also previewed for the media were reconstituted versions of "Lady Madonna" and "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," as well as a track that combines sound

effects from "Yellow Submarine" with another Ringo Starr-sung song, "Octopus's Garden.

"The Beatles always looked for other ways of expressing themselves and this is another step forward for them," Martin says. "What people will be hearing on the album is a new experience, a way of reliving the whole Beatles musical lifespan in a very condensed period," adds Giles.

In related news, Paul McCartney's newest classical work, "Ecce Cor Meum," will receive its U.S. premiere Nov. 14 at New York 's Carnegie Hall. The piece will be performed by soprano Kate Royal, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, the Concert Chorale of New York and the American Boys choir.
