THE VILLAGE
- Mitzi J. Johnson

Well, darlings! It has been awhile. I have been in Cabo and just haven't had the time to write. I am back with a tan and yes, I did wear sunscreen and a hat. Let's talk for a sec'bout sunscreen. You know that you should always wear it, right? You want UVA/UVB protection. Make sure you reapply every 2 hours if you are going to be sitting in the sun. You need it even on cloudy days, okay? Okay. So, now where was I? Oh, yes, Cabo. So, I am back now and sitting at my computer happy to be writing again. I thought this would be my Tribute to Halloween films since Halloween was a couple of months ago. I watched a few super scary flicks. I think my fave all time horror film is Murnau's NOSFERATU. A classic. Beautiful and scary. I watched HELLRAISER and HELLRAISER 2. They were okay. Not my faves. The first one was just gross. I love CLIVE BARKER, but not that much. PSYCHO. One of the best of all time scary movies. The original HILLS HAVE EYES should never be seen. Ever. Please trust me. Okay, so are you ready for the two top DVD Halloweenie picks for this year?

Well, I just loved this film. It is creepy, thought-provoking, visually stunning and well acted. WILLIAM HURT is just marvelous!! I haven't seen him in a film for a quite awhile. He has such a great voice. Good to see SIGOURNEY WEAVER as always! JOAQUIN PHOENIX and ADRIEN BRODY give steady performances, BUT the scene stealer is BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD. Apparently, she is the daughter of RON HOWARD, yes, for those of you who remember HAPPY DAYS; this is RICHIE CUNNINGHAM'S daughter. Boy, I feel old. However, I may feel old, but I don't LOOK old and that is really all that matters? Right? Now, let's see where was I? THE VILLAGE, yes. MS. HOWARD aka OPIE'S offspring takes on the role of IVY. This is a complex role and I have to say I was really impressed with her work. Kudos, of course, to MR. M. NIGHT SHYAMLAN. He knows creepy. That's it.

Ciao!
