REVOLUTIONARY ROAD
- Mitzi J. Johnson

Summer time...and the living is easy. Oh, yes it is. I really do not want to do much else but lounge in the sun by the pool. Sadly, I have to work to afford the pool, so there you have it. This next film is a reunion of sorts for three actors. The first time they all worked together, a big ship was going down. Can you guess who they are?

Kate, Leonardo and Kathy Bates were all aboard that mega-hit TITANIC many years ago. Together again, but no way are they the same. SAM MENDES (AMERICAN BEAUTY) directs his wife KATE WINSLET in this film based on the book by RICHARD YATES. I have not read the book, so I didn't know anything about the film when I saw it, other than Kate and Leo were in it. So it is set in the 1950's in the suburbs of CONNECTICUT. Not very fun if you ask me. REPRESSION CITY!!!!! So, the WHEELERS, brilliantly played by Kate and Leo aka Jack and Rose, are having some relationship probs and are trying to work them out. In the stifling environment of that period it is not easy. KATHY BATES has a supporting role and is great as usual. The other supporting actors are good, too. However, I was really impressed by the acting of the two leads. There were some amazing scenes filled with great depth and intensity. No wonder they were both nominated for Golden Globes. The film moved beautifully and MENDES has such a way with the camera. He has such intelligence and his moves are so subtle. He can convey so much of the "atmosphere" and I think that is why the acting is so stellar. The dialogue is fantastic and helps to aid the actors in hitting these emotional highs that are needed. I was horrified and very sad by the end of the film. Some of Kate and Leo's best acting ever. So, if you haven't seen it, please do. It's a good one.

Ciao,

Mitzi
