09/07/06 - Bob Dylan has his first #1 record in 30 years!
In 1976, Dylan hit #1 with Desire. In 2006, he has the #1 slot again with his new release, Modern Times. Stats like that make it sound like Dylan hasn't done much chart wise in all those years, but that's not really the case either. In 2001, he released Love and theft which opened at #5 and in 1997, Time Out of Mind, peaked at #10, making this his third consecutive top 10 studio set.

The ultra private Dylan seems to be digging deeper and reaching larger and larger crowds these days. Maybe it's the political unrest or the resurgence of singer / songwriters, but the new release; Modern Times is the highest debuting Dylan record in history and reflects his best sales week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. And it comes not a moment too soon as it knocked the Mtv girl band, Danity Kane right off their throne into the #2 slot with a sales hit of 50%. Go Zimmy Go!
